About The Event

Join Hanover County ARES for a hands-on field communications exercise! On both dates, participating operators will be stationed at key locations across Hanover County — including fire/EMS stations, schools, and other points of interest. Each group will set up a portable “base station” as well as operate with handheld radios (HTs).

Operators will attempt to maintain contact with a centralized command post using a variety of methods: the 511 repeater, other area repeaters, and simplex frequencies. The exercise will measure how well our current amateur radio infrastructure performs under real-world conditions and help guide decisions about where improvements or additional resources may be needed in the future.

This is a great opportunity to sharpen your skills, support local ARES efforts, and contribute to strengthening emergency communications in Hanover County.
